Algarve Hotels revenues fell 2% until September 2012

Overnight stays in hotels stabilized in the first nine months of this year, but revenues fell.

According to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE), the first increased by 0.2% over the same period last year and the latter fell 2% to 1.5 million.

Between January and September, the hotel industry recorded 32.5 million overnight stays, a value very close to the first nine months of 2011, and hosted 11.1 million guests, 1.2% less than in the same period last year.

Only in September hotels registered 4.6 million overnight stays, 3.6% more than the same month in 2011, contributing to this result the slight increase (up 0.4%) of the internal market, which reversed the downward trend for twelve consecutive months.

The largest contribution came from foreign markets, which grew 4.9% highlighting the markets Irish, German and Dutch.

Revenues have lagged the growth in overnight stays, down 2.1% YoY total revenue and 0.6% income from hotel occupancy.
